The New name box allows you to enter a common name that all the selected objects will be given.

Notice in this illustration that a space has been left after the last character and the I-beam cursor. This is so you can use the Add number, starting at option to add a number sequence to the end of each object so you can uniquely identify each one. In this example, you can easily identify that the objects selected are in Section 1 of your publication and each object will have a unique option number.
