A Master Page is simply a page in your publication that is used as a template for other pages in your publication. Master Pages contain objects that you want to appear on every page that uses it, this has two distinct advantages: (i) it maintains a consistent look and feel to your publication; (ii) it reduces the amount of work required in building your publication. Master Pages normally contain a background image, a border and navigation buttons i.e. things that you would want to appear on every page. You can also set the items of a master page to appear over the top of the objects on any page you are using it on (though for obvious reasons this ignores the background of the Master Page). You can also use a Master Page which uses another Master Page itself. Thus you can have one master page to create the background style and then another to display navigation buttons you want to appear on top of everything else. |
