Animation paths are always a single pixel in width and show arrows pointing in the direction the object will travel when it follows the path:

The red dot indicates the start of the path and the blue dot the end of the path. You can draw a variety of preset shapes as illustrated above as well as straight lines. At any time you can edit the shape of the path using the special Edit Vector toolbar that appears automatically, once you have drawn your shape.
